Tenohira (Palm of My Hand)

      03.11.20
      Artist: Mr Children
Title: Tenohira (Palm of my Hand)
      Words: Sakurai Kazutoshi
      Music: Sakurai Kazutoshi

The warped curves cut into the palm of my hand
proof that I was born for some greater purpose

You and me, we’re lonely animals that need each other
singing love like they’re leaning into one another

I meant to hold you but blew you away
meant to wrap around you, but cut you to pieces
meant to caress you but scratched you up
      and again, I seek love
We pretended to understand one another
      but were different seperate entities
We wanted to be one so badly
      writhing around in the darkness

It bears the sticker, proof that it’s the real thing
but, it’s the one insisting that seems fake

      You and me, we’re stuck,
lost at this sort of dead end, unable to escape.

It’s because we dream it’s fleeting
because we search we don’t find
because we want we don’t get.
      We’re at a loss
      There’s no time to think
that we might’ve made a mistake somewhere
but we can’t relax without the answer

you are you, I am me, how is it we keep losing sight
of such an obvious, such a simple truth?

      ALL FOR ONE FOR ALL
      BUT I AM ONE
      ALL FOR ONE FOR ALL
      BUT YOU ARE ONE

We don’t need to be one
      if we can accept this
Of course, not calluously if we can accept this
we won’t need to be one
our viewpoints, our philosophies, our religions
      don’t need to be one
if we can accept one another
      that would be grand

      Spit while kissing
      meant to lick but bit
meant to put it on you but tore it up
      and again, seek love
we don’t need to be one
if we accept one another that’s enough
That will give us the light that will rain down
gently, and scatter the darkness before us.
