Artist: Mr. Children
Title: Everything is Made From a Dream
Words: Sakurai Kazutoshi
Music: Sakurai Kazutoshi

no matter how many hours I sleep, I wake up exhausted
lately I come straight home after work.
I want to sleep and have a happy dream

this city is like a city of the future
right out of a Tezuka Osamu manga.
it’s whizzing along to modernization,
yet something seems so melancholic.
What did we give up to have this future?

the dream we launched with a 3. 2. 1. 0,
where is it now, oh oh oh oh where did it fly off to?
Can you see it?

The world is left without Bruce Lee and John Lennon,
that passion, that emotion, shall we ingrain it into our DNA?
I sing so, even as I scream.

we shot down someone’s dream with a 1. 2. 3. Go!
it’s oh oh oh oh too late now, no way to make it up to them
getting used to it more each time.

dreams? yeah, dreams there WAS something like that
a wonderful sort of thing
…there was something like that
a brilliant sort of thing
We’ve come this far just revering them,
is that really the case?

the nuclear bombs, the biological weapons
that took a million human lives in one second
those were once just the pure little dreams of nameless scientists,
weren’t they?
and now again we’re thinking only of our own hapiness,
as we use sceince as a weapon and try to control life itself.

and so the march goes on, to the far off future.

it’s a real pain, dreams could go either way, good or bad.
oh oh oh oh yes, it all depends on how we use them.

the time to launch our dream with a 3. 2. 1. 0 is now.
oh oh oh oh dream
everything is made from a dream
everything is made from a dream

Translated By: Brian Stewart & Takako Sakuma

Translator’s Notes: Considering Sakurai’s age, I’m guessing that Bruce Lee
and John Lenon were very important heroes of his youth. Both died
tragically young. If you don’t know who Osamu Tezuka is… get out of my
World Wide Web. The blurb in the middle of the song is replaced by an
excerpt from Tetsuwan Atomu Atom Boy, an anime/manga of Osamu Tezuka’s,
during concerts.
